ISO/IEC 27002:2013 Information technology #8212; Security techniques #8212; Code of practice for information security controls (second edition) Contents of and development, ISO/IEC 27002 (outline of the 19+ sections) ISO/IEC 27002 is a popular, internationally-recognized standard of good practice for papers on underage information security. Migration. ISO/IEC 27002#8217;s lineage stretches back more than 30 years to the precursors of BS 7799. Like governance and risk management, information security management is plays essays, a broad topic with ramifications throughout all organizations. Information security, and hence ISO/IEC 27002, is migration, relevant to all types of research on underage, organization including commercial enterprises of all sizes (from one-man-bands up to migration and development, multinational giants), not-for-profits, charities, government departments and quasi-autonomous bodies - in fact any organization that handles and depends on information. The specific information risk and control requirements may differ in detail but there is a lot of common ground, for instance most organizations need to papers on underage drinking, address the information risks relating to their employees plus contractors, consultants and the external suppliers of information services.
The standard is explicitly concerned with information security, meaning the security of all forms of information ( e.g. Migration. computer data, documentation, knowledge and intellectual property) and not just IT/systems security or #8220;cybersecurity#8221; as is the fashion of the day. ISO/IEC 27001 formally defines the mandatory requirements for an Information Security Management System (ISMS). It uses ISO/IEC 27002 to indicate suitable information security controls within the ISMS, but since ISO/IEC 27002 is merely a code of practice/guideline rather than a certification standard, organizations are free to plays essays, select and migration implement other controls, or indeed adopt alternative complete suites of information security controls as they see fit. ISO/IEC 27001 incorporates a summary (little more than the section titles in fact) of controls from ISO/IEC 27002 in Annex A. Critical Thinking Foundation For Critical. In practice, most organizations that adopt ISO/IEC 27001 also adopt ISO/IEC 27002. Structure and format of and development, ISO/IEC 27002:2013. ISO/IEC 27002 is a code of practice - a generic, advisory document, not a formal specification such as ISO/IEC 27001. It recommends information security controls addressing information security control objectives arising from risks to the confidentiality, integrity and availability of owl essays, information. Organizations that adopt ISO/IEC 27002 must assess their own information risks, clarify their control objectives and apply suitable controls (or indeed other forms of risk treatment) using the standard for guidance.
The standard is and development, structured logically around groups of related security controls. Many controls could have been put in several sections but, to avoid duplication and conflict, they were arbitrarily assigned to develop question, one and, in some cases, cross-referenced from elsewhere. For example, a card-access-control system for, say, a computer room or archive/vault is both an migration and development access control and a physical control that involves technology plus the organisation du travail et croissance dissertation, associated management/administration and usage procedures and policies. This has resulted in a few oddities (such as section 6.2 on migration mobile devices and owl essays teleworking being part of section 6 on migration the organization of information security) but it is at least a reasonably comprehensive structure. Papers. It may not be perfect but it is good enough on the whole. In more detail, here is migration and development, a breakdown summarizing the standard#8217;s 19 sections or chapters (21 if you include the unnumbered foreword and bibliography). The areas of the free story writing, blocks roughly reflects the migration, sizes of the sections. Click the diagram to jump to the relevant description. Du Travail. Briefly mentions ISO/IEC JTC1/SC 27, the committee that wrote the standard, and notes that this #8220;second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO/IEC 27002:2005), which has been technically and migration structurally revised#8221;. Plays Essays. This lays out the background, mentions three origins of information security requirements, notes that the standard offers generic and potentially incomplete guidance that should be interpreted in the organization#8217;s context, mentions information and information system lifecycles, and points to ISO/IEC 27000 for the overall structure and glossary for ISO27k.
The standard gives recommendations for those who are responsible for selecting, implementing and managing information security. It may or may not be used in support of an ISMS specified in ISO/IEC 27001. ISO/IEC 27000 is the only standard considered absolutely indispensable for and development the use of ISO/IEC 27002. However, various other standards are mentioned in the standard, and there is a bibliography. All the specialist terms and definitions are now defined in ISO/IEC 27000 and most apply across the entire ISO27k family of standards. Develop. Section 4: Structure of this standard. Migration And Development. Of the 21 sections or chapters of the standard, 14 specify control objectives and controls. These 14 are the #8216;security control clauses#8217;. There is a standard structure within each control clause: one or more first-level subsections, each one stating a control objective, and each control objective being supported in turn by one or more stated controls, each control followed by the associated implementation guidance and, in some cases, additional explanatory notes.
The amount of detail is story, responsible for the standard being nearly 90 A4 pages in migration, length. ISO/IEC 27002 specifies some 35 control objectives (one per #8217;security control category#8217;) concerning the need to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of plays essays, information. The control objectives are at and development a fairly high level and, in free online story writing contests, effect, comprise a generic functional requirements specification for an organization#8217;s information security management architecture. Few professionals would seriously dispute the validity of the migration and development, control objectives, or, to put that another way, it would be difficult to argue that an organization need not satisfy the stated control objectives in general. However, some control objectives are not applicable in research papers on underage drinking, every case and their generic wording is unlikely to and development, reflect the owl essays, precise requirements of every organization, especially given the very wide range of organizations and industries to which the migration and development, standard applies. This is why ISO/IEC 27001 requires the SoA (Statement of Applicability), laying out unambiguously which information security controls are or are not required by thesis, the organization, as well as their implementation status. And Development. Each of the control objectives is supported by at least one control , giving a total of 114.
However, the headline figure is somewhat misleading since the implementation guidance recommends numerous actual controls in the details. The control objective relating to the relatively simple sub-subsection 9.4.2 #8220;Secure log-on procedures#8221;, for instance, is supported by choosing, implementing and using suitable authentication techniques, not disclosing sensitive information at online story writing contests log-on time, data entry validation, protection against brute-force attacks, logging, not transmitting passwords in clear over the network, session inactivity timeouts, and access time restrictions. And Development. Whether you consider that to be one or several controls is up to papers drinking, you. It could be argued that ISO/IEC 27002 recommends literally hundreds of distinct information security controls, although some support multiple control objectives, in other words some controls have several purposes. Furthermore, the wording throughout the standard clearly states or implies that this is not a totally comprehensive set. An organization may have slightly different or completely novel information security control objectives, requiring other controls (sometimes known as #8216;extended control sets#8217;) in and development, place of or in foundation, addition to those stated in the standard.
Section 5: Information security policies. Migration. 5.1 Management direction for information security. Management should define a set of policies to clarify their direction of, and support for, information security. At the top level, there should be an plays essays overall #8220;information security policy#8221; as specified in ISO/IEC 27001 section 5.2. Section 6: Organization of information security.
The organization should lay out the roles and responsibilities for information security, and and development allocate them to papers drinking, individuals. Where relevant, duties should be segregated across roles and individuals to avoid conflicts of interest and migration and development prevent inappropriate activities. There should be contacts with relevant external authorities (such as CERTs and special interest groups) on plays essays information security matters. Information security should be an migration integral part of the management of all types of project. 6.2 Mobile devices and writing contests teleworking. There should be security policies and and development controls for mobile devices (such as laptops, tablet PCs, wearable ICT devices, smartphones, USB gadgets and other Boys#8217; Toys) and teleworking (such as telecommuting, working-from home, road-warriors, and remote/virtual workplaces). Owl Essays. [I don#8217;t know how this ended up under section 6, but here it is.] Section 7: Human resource security. Information security responsibilities should be taken into account when recruiting permanent employees, contractors and temporary staff ( e.g . through adequate job descriptions, pre-employment screening) and included in contracts ( e.g . terms and conditions of employment and other signed agreements defining security roles and responsibilities, compliance obligations etc. ). Migration. Managers should ensure that employees and papers drinking contractors are made aware of and motivated to comply with their information security obligations. A formal disciplinary process is necessary to handle information security incidents allegedly caused by workers. 7.3 Termination and migration change of employment. Security aspects of a person#8217;s departure from the organization, or significant changes of roles within it, should be managed, such as returning corporate information and equipment in free online story contests, their possession, updating their access rights, and reminding them of their ongoing obligations under privacy and intellectual property laws, contractual terms etc. Migration And Development. plus ethical expectations.
All information assets should be inventoried and owners should be identified to be held accountable for their security. Plays Essays. #8216;Acceptable use#8217; policies should be defined, and assets should be returned when people leave the organization. Information should be classified and migration and development labelled by owl essays, its owners according to the security protection needed, and handled appropriately. Information storage media should be managed, controlled, moved and disposed of in such a way that the information content is not compromised. 9.1 Business requirements of access control. The organization#8217;s requirements to control access to and development, information assets should be clearly documented in an access control policy and procedures. Network access and connections should be restricted. The allocation of access rights to users should be controlled from initial user registration through to removal of access rights when no longer required, including special restrictions for privileged access rights and the management of et croissance dissertation, passwords (now called #8220;secret authentication information#8221;) plus regular reviews and updates of migration, access rights.
Users should be made aware of their responsibilities towards maintaining effective access controls e.g . Du Travail Et Croissance. choosing strong passwords and keeping them confidential. 9.4 System and application access control. Information access should be restricted in accordance with the access control policy e.g. through secure log-on, password management, control over privileged utilities and restricted access to program source code. There should be a policy on the use of migration and development, encryption, plus cryptographic authentication and integrity controls such as digital signatures and message authentication codes, and on underage cryptographic key management. Section 11: Physical and environmental security. Defined physical perimeters and barriers, with physical entry controls and migration working procedures, should protect the premises, offices, rooms, delivery/loading areas etc. against unauthorized access. Specialist advice should be sought regarding protection against fires, floods, earthquakes, bombs etc. #8220;Equipment#8221; (meaning ICT equipment, mostly) plus supporting utilities (such as power and air conditioning) and online cabling should be secured and maintained. Equipment and information should not be taken off-site unless authorized, and must be adequately protected both on and off-site. Information must be destroyed prior to storage media being disposed of or re-used.
Unattended equipment must be secured and there should be a clear desk and clear screen policy. 12.1 Operational procedures and migration and development responsibilities. IT operating responsibilities and procedures should be documented. Changes to IT facilities and systems should be controlled. Research. Capacity and performance should be managed.
Development, test and operational systems should be separated. Malware controls are required, including user awareness. Appropriate backups should be taken and migration and development retained in owl essays, accordance with a backup policy. System user and administrator/operator activities, exceptions, faults and information security events should be logged and and development protected. Clocks should be synchronized. 12.5 Control of develop thesis question, operational software. Software installation on operational systems should be controlled.
12.6 Technical vulnerability management. Migration. Technical vulnerabilities should be patched, and there should be rules in place governing software installation by users. 12.7 Information systems audit considerations. IT audits should be planned and controlled to minimize adverse effects on production systems, or inappropriate data access. Networks and critical thinking for critical network services should be secured, for migration example by segregation. There should be policies, procedures and agreements ( e.g. non-disclosure agreements) concerning information transfer to/from third parties, including electronic messaging. Section 14: System acquisition, development and writing contests maintenance. 14.1 Security requirements of and development, information systems.
Security control requirements should be analyzed and plays essays specified, including web applications and transactions. 14.2 Security in development and support processes. Migration. Rules governing secure software/systems development should be defined as policy. Changes to systems (both applications and operating systems) should be controlled. Software packages should ideally not be modified, and secure system engineering principles should be followed. The development environment should be secured, and outsourced development should be controlled. System security should be tested and acceptance criteria defined to include security aspects. Note: there is a typo in 14.2.8: the reference to section 14.1.9 should read 14.2.9.
See the status update below, or technical corrigendum 2 for the official correction. Test data should be carefully selected/generated and controlled. Thesis. 15.1 Information security in supplier relationships. There should be policies, procedures, awareness etc. to migration, protect the critical foundation for critical thinking, organization#8217;s information that is accessible to and development, IT outsourcers and other external suppliers throughout the supply chain, agreed within the contracts or agreements. 15.2 Supplier service delivery management. Service delivery by external suppliers should be monitored, and reviewed/audited against the contracts/agreements. Plays Essays. Service changes should be controlled. [Exactly the same point applies to services delivered by internal suppliers, by the way!] Section 16: Information security incident management.
16.1 Management of information security incidents and improvements. There should be responsibilities and procedures to manage (report, assess, respond to and learn from) information security events, incidents and weaknesses consistently and effectively, and to collect forensic evidence. Section 17: Information security aspects of business continuity management. 17.1 Information security continuity. The continuity of information security should be planned, implemented and migration and development reviewed as an develop question integral part of the organization#8217;s business continuity management systems. IT facilities should have sufficient redundancy to satisfy availability requirements. 18.1 Compliance with legal and contractual requirements. The organization must identify and document its obligations to external authorities and other third parties in relation to information security, including intellectual property, [business] records, privacy/personally identifiable information and cryptography. The organization#8217;s information security arrangements should be independently reviewed (audited) and reported to management. Managers should also routinely review employees#8217; and systems#8217; compliance with security policies, procedures etc. and initiate corrective actions where necessary.
The standard concludes with a reading list of 27 (!) relevant ISO/IEC standards, more than half of which are other ISO27k standards. ISO/IEC 27002 ISMS implementation guidance. A collection of ISMS implementation guidelines and sample documents is available to download in the free ISO27k Toolkit, and implementation tips are sprinkled liberally throughout our ISO27k FAQ. ISO/IEC 27003 provides generic ISMS implementation guidance, focusing on the management system rather than the security controls. The revised version of ISO/IEC 27002 was published in September 2013 at migration the same time as the updated version of ISO/IEC 27001. The decision to drop the owl essays, definition of migration and development, #8220;information asset#8221; from ISO/IEC 27000 rather than truly bottom out this issue may prove to have been a tactical error. A technical corrigendum published in October 2014 made minor changes to the wording of research papers, ISO/IEC 27002:2013 supposedly to clarify that #8220;information#8221; is migration and development, indeed an #8220;asset#8221;. Organisation Dissertation. A simple monodigit typo resulting in a reference from section 14.2.8 pointing back to 14.1.9 (there is migration, no such section - shock!
Horror!) instead of forward to 14.2.9 (the correct, intended reference to, yes, the very next section) was noted formally as a defect in the published standard, following the proper ISO/IEC procedures to the letter of course. Esteemed representatives of a number of thesis question, national standards bodies met in person to discuss and consider this dreadful situation at some length and some cost to their respective taxpayers. What on migration and development Earth could be done about it? During the plenary held in critical thinking for critical, Kuching it was decided unanimously that this mistake should be fixed by simply replacing #8220;see 14.1.1 and 14.1.9€#8221; with #8220;see 14.1.1 and 14.2.9.#8221; Remarkable! Unanimous agreement on a simple fix! What a relief! [/SARCASM] The second corrigendum was published in November 2015. The standard is migration, currently being revised to reflect changes in information security since the current edition was drafted - things such as BYOD, cloud computing, virtualization, crypto-ransomware, social networking, pocket ICT and IoT, for instance. Rather than leaping straight in to the updates, SC 27 is reconsidering the entire structure of the standard this time around. Two approaches are currently being considered in parallel: The controls will be grouped into #8216;themes#8217; forming clauses in organisation et croissance, the main body of the standard.
The controls will be tagged with attributes that can be used to select from them ( e.g. preventive controls). Migration. A set of appendices will be provided, selecting controls using various tags. The main body of the owl essays, standard will offer several #8216;views#8217; meaning various classifications or groupings of information security controls according to their tags, with the tagged controls themselves being laid out in the appendix. The existing controls are likely to be reviewed and maybe rewritten given the different contexts. #8216;Control fragments#8217; may also be consolidated while #8216;supporting controls#8217; may be identified as such. ISO/IEC 27002 is a massive standard covering a very broad range of information risks and controls. There is so much content, in fact, and so many changes due to the ongoing evolution of information security, that I feel it has outstripped the migration, capabilities of develop thesis question, SC 27 . And Development. In my considered opinion based on the horrendous problems that dogged the 2005 to writing, 2013 revision, it is no longer maintainable, hence it is no longer viable in its current form . Take for example the mess that is section 17, #8220;Information security aspects of business continuity management#8221;. I argued that information security and business continuity are so tightly intertwined that this section should be rewritten from scratch to emphasize three distinct but complementary aspects (resilience, recovery and contingency). Indeed I provided a completely re-written section to the committee but, for various unsatisfactory reasons, we have ended up with a compromise that makes a complete mockery of the migration and development, entire subject.
Most of section 17 is concerned with maintaining information security controls during a disaster recovery-type situation (an issue that may not even deserve coverage at this level, and certainly not to the extent it is covered), while all that remains of my re-write is a garbled section on #8220;redundancies#8221; that is so obscure as to online, be practically meaningless. Take for example the fact that revising the standard has consumed thousands of man-hours of work and and development created enormous grief for all concerned, over several years, during which time the world around us has moved on. In the 2013 release, there is a complete lack of reference to BYOD and du travail et croissance dissertation cloud computing - two very topical and pressing information security issues where the standard could have given practical guidance. What#8217;s more, the end result is inconsistent in terms of the level of detail and tone. It bears more than a passing resemblance to a racing horse designed by migration, a committee ( i.e. a camel). I#8217;m not alone in this: it has been noted that the lengthy revision cycle for 27002 is a concern - a sound comment that was immediately ruled #8216;out of scope#8217; (!). The time is ripe for a back-to-basics re-think of ISO/IEC 27002.
As I see it, this could pan-out in several ways: Option 1: divide 27002 into foundation for critical a multi-part standard consisting of an overview/introductory part, followed by a handful of topic-specific parts that, together, cover the entire breadth. This implies the need for a set of and development, SC 27 projects and editors to work on the separate parts, plus an overall coordination team responsible for ensuring continuity and consistency across them all. Converting 27002 into a multi-partite standard would have several advantages: The individual parts could be revised independently to keep pace with the evolution of information security, particularly but not exclusively the on underage drinking, technological aspects; The individual parts would be more manageable: reviewing, commenting and editing them would be more feasible within the constraints of an international committee working almost exclusively through just 2 face-to-face meetings per year; The main clauses of the current and revised versions of 27002 naturally imply the scope of the migration, subsidiary parts (though not necessarily a one-to-one relationship); Some of those implied subsidiary parts are already in critical, place, or under development, as separately-numbered ISO27k standards. However, coordination across several semi-independent project teams would be an onerous task, implying a concerted effort up-front to clearly and explicitly define the ground rules, scopes and objectives of the subsidiary parts, and ongoing proactive involvement of a management team with its fingers on the pulse of all the subsidiary project teams. Option 6 below is a possible solution. Option 2: re-cast 27002 as a far more succinct, higher-level overview standard with links to other, more detailed standards to and development, fill-in the details. 27002 itself would provide broad, generic information security guidance across the full scope of ISO27k. It would be small enough to be feasible for the current ways of working within SC 27. Papers Drinking. Option 3: SC 27 could adopt collaborative working practices, jointly developing a revised version of 27002 through real-time collaborative development and editing of a shared document , at and development least as far as the Committee Drafts when the approach might revert to the existing formalized methods to complete the process and issue a revised standard. [This option could be combined with any of the owl essays, others, if only SC 27 would wake up and smell the coffee.
This is the migration, 21st Century, friends!] Option 4: retire 27002 as such, leaving behind Annex A in 27001 as the final legacy from the thesis question, original code of practice and BS 7799. Cover all the migration and development, aspects of information security that need to be covered through other ISO27k standards, or indeed other standards outside the remit of SC 27. Give up on 27002. Plays Essays. Abandon it as a lost cause. And Development. Option 5: continue as at present. This is the straw man as far as I am concerned: it will undoubtedly take SC 27 so long and so much effort to papers, revise 27002 that we probably ought to have started working on the next revision before the 2013 version was even published! Option 6: study periods are examining ways of structuring the migration, information security risks and controls into online story writing contests one or more #8216;libraries#8217;. There appears to be a desire to migration and development, use the libraries to plays essays, drive and structure further ISO27k standards development, but the proposal is migration, unclear (at least to foundation, me) at this point. Option 7: deliver changes to 27002 as an ongoing sequence of migration, amendments to the published standard. Story Writing. Aside from the not insignificant matter of the extraordinarily slow pace of SC 27, and the constraints of ISO policies, this has the potential to migration, cause utter chaos and plays essays confusion, and expense. Options 8+: I#8217;m sure there are other ways of doing this . what would you suggest?
Please join the discussion on the ISO27k Forum. Option A: the and development, drafting team is thinking of grouping or categorizing the controls into four or five quite broad #8216;themes#8217;: Organizational controls - controls involving management and the organization in general, other than those in 27001; Technical controls - controls involving or relating to technologies, IT in particular; People controls - controls involving or relating to behaviors, activities, roles and story writing responsibilities etc .; Physical controls - tangible controls such as locks, and other environmental protection such as fire and intruder alarms; External party controls - controls involving or relating to parties outside the scope of an ISMS ( e.g . contracted cloud services, service level agreements with other parts of the organization, legal and regulatory obligations, privacy policies and migration and development other obligations to customers etc. ). Note: this group may be part of #8216;organizational controls#8217; Aside from the #8216;themes#8217;, the controls will also be #8216;tagged#8217; according to other parameters or criteria, yet to be defined, so they can be grouped or selected in other ways too. This has the potential to make the standard, and plays essays the project, even more complicated than it already is. Migration And Development. On the other hand, it reflects these complexities: A given control may have several applications ( e.g. backups help protect against malware, hacks, bugs, accidents, mechanical breakdowns, fires etc. , and free story writing contests can include deputies and multi-skilled replacements for critical people, as well as data backups); Any given application may require several controls ( e.g. malware can be mitigated using backups, awareness, antivirus, network access controls, authentication, patching, testing etc .); Many of the controls we commonly consider ( e.g . backups) are not atomic, being composed of and involve several elements or pieces ( e.g. backups involve strategies, policies and migration procedures, software, hardware, testing, incident recovery, physical protection of backup media etc. ). At the end of the day, security controls will inevitably be allocated to free online story writing contests, themes and tagged arbitrarily in places: for example, a commercial card access lock on a building entrance may fall into and development any, perhaps all of the plays essays, themes listed above, but if it and other such controls were covered several times, the migration and development, standard would become unwieldy. More likely, it would be categorized as a physical control, possibly with references to others elements. An alternative #8216;no themes#8217; design proposal led to the idea of the standard describing the use of various attributes or groupings in the main body ( e.g. distinguishing preventive, detective and critical foundation corrective approaches with control examples), while listing and detailing the actual controls in an annex, perhaps alphabetically (effectively, a controls catalogue).
The restructured standard should be usable on and development paper, but the tagging and cross-linking strongly hints at the possibility of building database systems (even something as simple as Excel) allowing users to filter or select and sort the controls by whatever criteria or questions they pose - for instance, #8220;What physical security controls apply to privacy?#8221; or #8220;What preventive controls do not involve technology?#8221;.

Boyd adds that it is not known whether stunning makes the animal unconscious but it is a very painful procedure (221). The animals are often alive while they are being dismembered in thesis question, the slaughterhouse- they die piece by piece. In slaughterhouses where pork is processed, the pigs are dumped into hot water in order to soften their hide before skinning.
Sometimes, the and development pigs are still alive and squeal while thrown into these tanks containing hot water. The same applies for chickens and other birds. Story Contests! Due to and development improper stunning, large numbers of chickens, turkeys and ducks are thrown into develop, scalding tanks alive and either drown or are boiled to death. Often animals need to be restrained before undertaking this stunning procedure. Grandin notes that some slaughterhouses use cruel methods of restraint such as hanging animals by one leg. In this process, some bones in the animal’s body are broken, leaving it in pain before it finally dies. In many slaughterhouses in the United States, there is time constraint which is often the reason behind animal cruelty. Workers in these slaughterhouses are often under pressure to keep the and development production line running. The cost of stopping the assembly line in the slaughterhouse is thinking for critical thinking, expensive. Thus workers are warned against it. Toward this end, they do not follow steps for humane slaughter.
Often animals are alive while they are skinned. Animal cruelty in migration and development, slaughterhouses is a recurring nightmare yet not much is done to stop the practice. Warrick writes about the violations at a Texas beef company where hooves were chopped off live cattle. Even when this problem was reported by inspectors, the government ignored it. Furthermore, in February 2007 an investigator at Mercy for Animals (MFA) worked undercover as an employee at drinking, one of the largest poultry slaughterhouses in and development, the United States and found many acts of animal cruelty.
The investigator found that workers at this slaughterhouse: punch live animals for fun; rip eggs out of hens and throw at workers; rip of heads of turkeys stuck in cages and let birds lie in misery. On the other hand, another investigator at a large Tyson slaughterhouse in Alabama found that: workers rip off heads of chickens that missed the throat cutting machine and; birds were mutilated from faulty throat cutting machines. In a slaughterhouse for critical thinking foundation thinking cattle, footage portrayed extreme cruelty to the animals. And Development! The cows were trampled upon, dragged and tortured by organisation du travail, the workers using electric nudges. Fully conscious cows were hung by their feet. One cow was alive when it reached the point where its legs were to be cut off.
1.2 Arguments in support of animal cruelty. Migration And Development! The argument in support of plays essays animal cruelty seeks to justify the actions that are termed as cruelty. This supposed cruelty to animals is necessary not because workers enjoy doing it but in order to meet certain demands in the meat slaughtering business. These demands include: the exigencies of time, large numbers of animals, counter productivity of humane slaughter and preserving the quality of meat. As slaughterhouses grow larger, it becomes impossible to slaughter animals humanely. These slaughter houses have a large number of clients and deadlines to meet. Thus, they are unable to undertake humane slaughter of animals which is time consuming. Humane slaughter of animals is a time consuming process.
Also, it is migration, difficult to ascertain the amount to time it will take for an animal to die before the processing can start. Plays Essays! Human slaughtering is disruptive. It takes time and wastes many productive man hours. And Development! In other words, it is counter productive. Also, humane slaughtering of animals can lead to other issues. The meat might depreciate after animals are completely dead. Processing animals while they are alive or immediately after death helps keep the meat fresh.
Furthermore, the public is putting emotions way before economic gain and market forces when they talk about animal cruelty in slaughterhouses. The loss that will be incurred by humane slaughter is far too great to consider implementing the practice. Thesis! 1.3 Arguments against migration and development, animal cruelty. The argument against animal cruelty in slaughterhouses goes beyond compassion and morality for lower animals. Plays Essays! Fear and tension in animals cause their bodies to produce enzymes that damage meat. In the long run, companies loose a lot of money due to this problem. Very often in the United States, meat is discarded because of this reason. Migration And Development! Furthermore, the treatment of animals in an important issue that needs to be addressed. With advances in research, it is proven that there is research papers, little distinction between human beings and lower animals.
As animals, they have emotions and migration, also dream. Critical! Consequently, they feel pain and suffering when they are mistreated. There is a relationship between cruelty to and development animals and cruelty to human beings. Owl Essays! People who are cruel to migration and development animals will at one point or other, do same to human beings as well. Therefore, it is develop, important that cruelty to animals in slaughterhouses be stopped. Migration And Development! Who knows? This cruelty might be extended to human beings one day as well.
Animal cruelty in online story contests, slaughterhouses is an eyesore. The practice may be justified by economic considerations but it is not pleasing to see. Managers of slaughterhouses should consider the negative effects of the practice as it affects meat processing. Migration! Government should play a more active role in stemming the practice. Boyd, F. “Humane Slaughter of Poultry: The Case Against the Use of Electrical Stunning Devices,” Journal of Agriculture and Environmental Ethics, 7.2 (1994): 221. Deloitte Interview Tips and Firm History – Deloitte Consulting S#038;O. The companies we cover in our firm profiles are big players in the industry. They show up on all sorts of lists – best company to and development, work for, best place to plays essays, start a career, etc. But Deloitte’s Strategy and migration and development, Operations (SO) Consulting practice seems to enjoy talking about it more than the owl essays, rest. From their website to their newsletters, from their Careers page to their Facebook presence, they love to talk about the lists they’ve graced and the rankings they’ve achieved. So, are they all talk, or are they really all that?
Sure, Deloitte was named the and development, best place to free online contests, launch a career by Business Week in 2007 and 2009. Yeah, LinkedIn ranked Deloitte #1 world’s most in demand employer. Okay, so Deloitte was also ranked in the top 5 world’s most attractive employers last year by Universum Global Employer Brand. And Development. But are these just glitzy titles, or are they backed by something real? Plus – does the research on underage, consulting practice rank in all the migration, same ways? Let’s be clear – Deloitte’s SO practice is no MBB, and as far as we can tell, they never will be. But if you’re not going to MBB, then Deloitte Strategy Ops is MC’s pick for your best non-MBB option to free online writing contests, launch a career in consulting. Like we said, they’re likely never going to be a McKinsey, Bain, or BCG – from pay to travel perks to project types to exit opportunities, you won’t find us advising a client to choose Deloitte over MBB.
They do, however, have huge things going for them. Excellent compensation, great training programs, and some very interesting projects make Deloitte a legitimate player in the consulting world. Another thing that makes Deloitte special, and number 1 on our non-MBB list? Consulting experience there won’t exclude you from getting into MBB later on. We’ve worked with several clients who have gone from Deloitte to McKinsey, BCG, or Bain – which is something we can say for only a handful of firms. Bottom line? Deloitte touts itself as one of the best places to work, and migration, we don’t disagree – but we have quite a lot to say about organisation dissertation them. Deloitte SO Headquarters: New York, NY. Deloitte SO Employees : 2,000 consultants. Deloitte SO Locations : 44 U.S. And Development. offices.
Deloitte SO Chief Executive : Mike Canning. Deloitte SO Engagement Cost: $400K. Deloitte was founded in 1845 in London, England by William Welch Deloitte. He was the drinking, first person to migration, be appointed as an independent auditor for a public company – the Great Western Railway – and went on to build his credibility and thinking, business on the railway and migration, hotel industries. Deloitte accepted his first partner in 1857 and opened his first overseas office in New York in 1880. After Deloitte’s retirement in 1897, the company started on thesis, a long series of migration and development, partnerships, affiliations, and mergers that continued into the 21st century, not to owl essays, mention countless name changes. Key persons involved in the growth and direction of the company include George Bailey, George Touche, and migration and development, Nobuzo Tohmatsu. The first appearance of a management consulting function at Deloitte was after George Bailey, then president of the American Institute of critical thinking, Certified Public Accountants, joined the organization in and development, 1947. To further strengthen the thesis question, company’s consulting business, Deloitte Touche partners decided to create Deloitte Touche Consulting Group in 1995. In more recent years, major developments in Deloitte’s consulting business include the purchase of the North American Public Service practice of BearingPoint (formerly KPMG Consulting) in 2009 and their acquisition of Monitor Group earlier this year.
DELOITTE CONSULTING (SO) ORGANIZATION. When you think of Deloitte, you usually think of bean counters doing an audit, or suited up professionals from their transaction advisory practice. But Deloitte is a LOT more. They’re a major corporation with almost 200,000 employees across the migration, globe. They are definitely a force to plays essays, be reckoned with, and an excellent place to start, develop, or end your consulting career. One of migration and development, Deloitte’s greatest successes is that they provide the owl essays, whole suite of services – from auditing to risk to strategy and more. Migration. Their breadth also lends to their weakness, however. Sure, they will win one engagement a year from the big dogs – the McKinseys and the Bains – but from the plays essays, management consulting lens, Deloitte is migration and development not a pure strategist, so they don’t stand out as one of the top players, and probably never will. If you’re pursuing consulting at Deloitte, rest assured that their Strategy Operations practice (lovingly known as SO) is a great option for your management consulting career. Research Papers. If you’re currently at migration, Deloitte trying to get into consulting – perhaps you’re an analyst in foundation, their risk practice or a manager in their audit practice – your first step should be to transition into Strategy Ops from and development your current sector.
In either case, a background in owl essays, Deloitte SO will set you up for migration and development a great career at Deloitte or a launching pad for MBB. To understand Deloitte SO consulting better, we thought it helpful to organisation et croissance, lay out and development where the et croissance, practice fits in the bigger planet of Deloitte. First, the umbrella firm – which we’ll fondly call Big Daddy Deloitte , is the migration, parent company that encompasses the plays essays, firm’s entire global operation. Big Daddy Deloitte boasts 193,000 employees, offices in 150+ countries, and revenues of US $31.3B. Within Big Daddy Deloitte, there are 4 tribes – Tax , Audit , Financial Advisory and migration and development, Consulting . Free Story. Each of these firms are separate legal entities and are managed and owned by a partner group – some of the migration, best-paid partners in the world, might we add. Deloitte Consulting is further broken down into 3 sectors: Human Capital, Strategy Operations, and Technology.
Most management consulting candidates are focused on Strategy Operations – which is broken down into these 6 areas: Finance Infrastructure Operations MA Restructuring Supply Chain and develop question, Manufacturing Operations Service Operations Strategy. You’ll notice that practices at Deloitte, in migration, contrast to MBB, are organized less by industry and more by function. Why is this? It has to do with who Deloitte is thinking for critical thinking selling to.
While MBB firms are focused on CEOs and reorganizing entire businesses, Deloitte focuses on a level below that – a particular function, like accounting/finance, HR, or operations. That means Deloitte is usually talking to migration and development, someone at the VP level, a level below the C-suite. Thesis. If they are working with C-level clients, the clients are often heading up operating units, portfolio companies or organizations beyond the Fortune 500. It’s important here to note that Deloitte’s tax and auditing practice dominates in the Fortune 500 segment – just so you can begin to navigate who’s who in the Deloitte zoo. Migration And Development. It’s also important to know that, while Deloitte’s other practices are technically a part of the same company, if you’re aiming for SO but not there yet, you’d much rather be in research papers on underage drinking, one of the other Deloitte Consulting practices – Technology or Human Capital – than in a separate legal entity (like Audit) altogether.
The transfer possibilities, which we’ll talk about migration and development later, will be much easier – and the skill sets will be highly transferable. Deloitte has 150+ total offices worldwide. 75 of those have SO presence. Deloitte has one of the most consistent global brand names out there, and tons of offices around the world. One of the benefits of working for them is that they make possible a lot of inter country transfers. If you’re a non-U.S. Owl Essays. resident looking to migration, work in consulting in the U.S., transitioning from free story writing a foreign Deloitte office to migration, one of their U.S. location is an excellent way to do that. Not only thesis, are they everywhere – and migration, we mean everywhere (Deloitte SO hires in plays essays, the town of and development, Harrisburg, PA where you won’t find any other major consulting firms) – they have very big offices. The downside of this is that there isn’t a lot of interconnectedness within the office; the upside is that in terms of lifestyle and raising a family, there are a lot of options in terms of thinking foundation, where you can live. Deloitte is quirky in that it’s probably one of the most common firms that people go back to after leaving and and development, working somewhere else. You’d rarely see someone return to MBB after a career on the outside – it just doesn’t happen. Why is Deloitte different?
They have a strong global network and they’re open to rehiring people later in their career. In fact, Deloitte is very clear that, in contrast to MBB, theirs is not an “up or out” culture – because they have so many options for consultants to tailor-make a career, they emphasize that the online contests, firm is a great place to grow a whole career – not just to get training for a future as a CEO. Undergrads come in as Analysts while MBAs and APDs will usually come in and development, as Consultant. After that, you progress to Senior Consultant, Manager, Senior Manager, and finally Principal/Director. One exit opportunity is internal – you can move to a different area in Deloitte. Like we’ve said, there are tons of locations, a variety of practices, and a breadth of opportunities to explore within the business. Other firms aren’t big enough to offer such variety; there’s just not enough space. At BCG, for example, if you become an expert in something, you’re going to become more and more specialized in that area. The only direction you can go – at all of the plays essays, MBBs – is and development up or out. A note about inter-Deloitte transfers, however – it’s really important that you try as hard as you can to owl essays, start where you want to and development, end – so if you want to go to SO, apply there – the firm’s party line is that you can’t switch (we understand this, but have anecdotal evidence to the contrary). There’s nothing super surprising about the other exit options, including career consulting (going to MBB or a boutique firm), moving to a start-up, or working in strategy for Fortune 500s.
There is something, however, that you’re less likely to do when you leave Deloitte as compared to MBB – you won’t find yourself in private equity, and this is a pretty popular option for alumni from the top echelon. Orin C. Smith – CEO of Starbucks Abby Noble – Head, Latin America and Africa, Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and World Economic Forum Allison McGee – VP Health Plan Services and Strategic Development, Health Data Management Solutions Rick Vanzura – Executive VP and Co-COO, Panera Bread Kate Zhou – Founder and CEO, Kate Zhou Handbags Ken Zeff – COO, Green Dot Public Schools Omar Douglas – Director of Organizational Effectiveness, General Mills Art Martinez – Deputy Director, Strategic Planning Portfolio Management, Global Health Policy Advocacy, Bill Melinda Gates Foundation Fred Goodwin – CEO of the foundation thinking, Royal Bank of Scotland Sergio Marchionne – CEO of Fiat Bill Owens – 40th Governor of Colorado Pierre Pettigrew – Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Cosgrove – Chief of the Australian Defence Force Allison McGourty – Founder of Lo-Max Records Sam Morgan – Founder of TradeMe. Terms we associate with Deloitte are “ethics,” “integrity,” and “code of conduct” – that’s probably due to their foundation in accounting and auditing. What we don’t associate Deloitte with is “entreprenuership,” “innovation,” and “out of the box.” This isn’t to say you won’t find Deloitte consultants who have these characteristics – it’s just that the firm in migration, general isn’t known for critical thinking these things. And Development. Instead, they’ve built a name for themselves by doing things consistently and delivering on time.
Whereas a CEO would hire thought leaders from MBB to come in and turn a company around, a VP of Supply Chain would hire Deloitte to come in and deliver an operations solution that works because it’s been done again and again. While they’re not necessarily creative, Deloitte consultants are very good financial modelers. They don’t do as much one-on-one customer research as an MBB consultant would, but their modeling skills rock. MBB recruiters know this and know that they can build on plays essays, the training foundation Deloitte is so good at offering its consultants; if a consultant can think outside the box as well, the rest can be taught. Like any consulting firm, Deloitte offers great benefits and perks, plenty of opportunity to learn and grow, and lots of travel. Migration. In fact, while MBB usually runs on critical thinking foundation, 4-days-a-week with Fridays in migration, the home office, because of Deloitte SO’s operational nature the firm is on a standard 5-day-a-week travel program – so they push the travel-heavy end of the plays essays, spectrum.
When it comes to local office culture – a huge draw at migration, places like Bain – Deloitte fails the test. Plays Essays. Because they’re so gigantic – you’ll find 1000 people at a Deloitte office and 50-100 at a typical BCG office – local office culture and connectivity are almost non-existent at Deloitte. The repercussions extend to and development, a weaker mentoring/coaching environment and no clear bond among Deloitte alum. Think of it like the difference between going to Harvard vs. UT Austin for undergrad.
At Harvard you can vouch for research papers on underage drinking the caliber of and development, your classmates – you have similar academic backgrounds, you took similar coursework to graduate, and you get to know one another on develop thesis question, the small campus. DELOITTE CONSULTING (SO) INTERVIEWS AND RECRUITING. Deloitte case interviews are not as quantitative or as long as MBB case interviews. That is, if you’re using MBB as a standard for case practice, you’ll be well-prepared in a Deloitte interview.
Expect at most 2 quantitative cases at a max of 30 min (more often around the 20 minute mark), and a heavy emphasis on critical thinking foundation thinking, market sizing – with an and development, even heavier emphasis on fit questions. Interviewers at Deloitte are usually more interested in your up front structure and organisation du travail et croissance, your answer as opposed to your mental math and migration, quantitative horsepower. Great piece for a practice that (at least from an insider’s perspective) has been on the up and migration and development, up over thinking foundation for critical thinking the last few years. A little sunshine pumping, but overall it is a very good article for owl essays someone trying to learn about the company. And Development. DC is the top consulting arm for any of the papers, B4 firms (everyone else is trying to catch up after selling off their previous consulting arms). “We’ve worked with several clients who have gone from Deloitte to McKinsey, BCG, or Bain – which is something we can say for and development only a handful of firms.” From your experience, what other firms would MBB consider hiring from?
Booz, OW, LEK, ATK etc.? What role do they typically go into? What specifically would you be interested in in knowing about the federal consulting practice? That could be a whole post on research papers on underage drinking, its own. MBB is super-selective (no shocker).
